Laura Mulveys theory explores the way in which women are represented to be 'objectified' through male sexual fantasy and therefore they appeal to the 'Male Gaze'. 'The Male Gaze' is the name of the theory Laura Mulvey has giving to the fact that women conform to the stereo-type of 'To-Be-Looked-At-Ness'. This is a term given to those women who are attractive and therefore show off there beauty in order for guys to look at them. Laura Mulvey states two types of 'To-Be-Looked-At-Ness' and this is:
FeTisHiSTic..
This is when the viewer is looking in order to get some sort of an excitement..
VoYeRisTiC..
This is when the viewer is geting sexual pleasure out of something that he/she is not meant to be looking at. For example, Big Brother. Basically, like sying on the 'Male Gaze' and therefore, looking when they are not aware!
How can this be used in my independant study..?
The 'Male Gaze' does not conform to the film 'Creep' as none of the characters are fetishised in order for them to look appealing for the viewers. Therefore i can apply this theory to my independant study as it shows that Laura Mulveys theory is not ENTIRELY true as my texts does not portray women to be looked at like they are sexual objects, nor does it implay that the representation of women is there to be appealed to a male audience. Also this suggests that the mass majourity of an audience is not male, and do not view texts in a sexual manner, in order to get some sort of pleasure out of it. This texts, shows the main character to be active and not just play a passive role in the story. Also in society at the time.
